Did you know that McHappy Day raises over $6 million dollars a year in Canada for children's charities?

Did you know that half of the funds raised locally go to the Boys and Girls Club?

And did you know that fuzzy purple McDonald's mascot, 'Grimace' represents a taste bud? 

Go to a McDonald's restaurant today and you're bound to see big crowds and well-known individuals in the community may be scooping up your fries or boxing your Big Mac.

After more than a quarter century, this fundraiser still packs them in.

"People come and they come two, three times today, right up until midnight," said Rena Krell.

"The response we get from people is unbelievable."

Today, $1 from every Big Mac, Happy Meal, or McCafe beverage goes to support Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver, with half of the money raised in the Kelowna area going toward the Boys and Girls Club here.

"We love this day," said Richelle Leckey from the Boys and Girls Club "It truly makes us McHappy."

Kelowna Fire Chief Travis Whiting was washing windows and selling raffle tickets in the drive-through.

"It's a great opportunity for my crews and ourselves to come and help in the community," said Whiting.

The head of the Kelowna RCMP, Superintendent Brent Mundle was mixing up a frothy drink for a customer while not quite sure what it really was. "I'm not quite sure," admitted Mundle, "but the staff are great and it's all for a good cause."

Global Television's Klaudia Van Emmerik was having a hard time finding customers to match with the order numbers behind the counter.

"I really am screwing up orders, but it's the act of trying to help out that counts," said Van Emmerik.

"I really want to help make a difference for all of those children and families."

Miss International Volunteer Samantha Sewell, was supporting the event in the Harvey Avenue location today.

While volunteering at Ronald McDonald House, she was shocked to learn that most of the children who depend on it are from the interior. "I will continue to help them as much as possible," she said.

The VIP presence we have every year, I'm just amazed," said Krell. "It grows every year."

The Boys and Girls Club raises over $40 thousand a year and has partnered with McHappy day for a decade now.
