Newly hired city manager Doug Gilchrist likes the way Kelowna is growing up. Gilchrist has taken the city's top job at an exciting time. There are currently over 20 high rise projects in the works including those in the earliest application phases. The 14 year veteran with the city sat down with KelownaNow to talk about the city's rapid pace of development, and the job that lies ahead.

Gilchrist was first hired by the city in 2004 as Manager of Community Development and Real Estate. He's originally from the Vancouver area. He was instrumental in the city's acquisition of a section of CN rail right-of-way for the Okanagan Rail Trail. He's a graduate of UBC's Sauder School of Urban Land Economics and worked with both provincial and federal governments before coming to the City of Kelowna.
