  • VIDEO: Construction underway on 23-storey Landmark 7

Construction is now officially underway on what will become the tallest Class A office building anywhere between Calgary and Greater Vancouver. Today, Al Stober Construction marked the milestone while officially opening the new District Market, which already boasts 5 restaurants in what used to be a Volkswagen dealership.

The vision for the flourishing Landmark District began to take shape in the early 1990s with Landmark 1 opening in 1994. The six buildings are currently home to about 3500 workers. Landmark 7 will be the final piece of a vision that has been shaped over time. But it's the District Market that really rounds it out said Landmark spokesperson Dallas Gray. "It's really a one-stop business neighbourhood," said Gray. "You have every professional service, tech companies and pretty much any retail amenity you need."

Gray said what Landmark is doing works well with the development plans around it as well, including the Capri. "This was a big important step," he said. "It's bringing connectivity from the highway back into the District, and yeah, it's going to mesh really well with some of the new road alignments."

Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran was on-hand for the occasion. He said it's a great addition to the community, "We need the office space," said Basran. "We are an entrepreneurial hub and this will help attract business to our community, and also create space for locally grown businesses."

Gray said pre-leasing is underway for Landmark 7, with a scheduled completion date of May 2022.
