This is some breaking news!

  • The five Christmas archetypes

Christmas is a weird time of year – it can send certain folks into over-the-top excited states or cause total hermit mode in others.

Read on to see if you recognize any of these archetypes:

    The Christmas Elf

This Christmas loving soul erects their tree November 1.

A countdown to the reveal of this season's decor theme hangs on the fridge.

The basement closet, devoted exclusively to Christmas paraphernalia, overflows with holiday themed socks and sweaters.

Their yard looks something like "Christmas Vegas". Hundreds of individually wrapped gifts wait expectantly to be opened under the tree.

    The Grinch

This Christmas Scrooge complains the entire holiday and resists the pressure to put up a tree.

It's not unusual for them to donate to charity instead of buying gifts.

They reluctantly participate in family gatherings, ensuring their dissatisfaction is known at every turn.

Grimacing and frowning is their preferred resting state. This act is only a cover for the huge heart they are attempting to disguise.

    The Scandinavian minimalist

This Christmas angel loves the season but has disdain that it's turned into a months long event.

While they embrace that it's a special time, they feel it should be fleeting.

They struggle with the waste that comes from the plethora of plastic toys, decorations and wrapping.

These types implore their loved ones to purchase experiences, buy used, or make something for one another in place of purchasing material gifts.

They're the kind to decorate solely with natural items: centrepieces made with pine branches and cones. It's lost on them when friends complain how stressed Christmas makes them.

    The Last Minute Shopper

The ultimate cliche: those who leave shopping to Christmas Eve – the all too familiar frantic panic purchasing.

These are the types who might buy the boxed sets of beauty supplies as a last resort, while narrowly escaping buying cookware for their romantic partners.

While stress shopping, urgent calls are made to family members in need of gift ideas.

    The Activity Junkie

This ray of sunshine wants to do it all: sleigh rides with mulled wine, Christmas carolling, ice skating, markets, cross country skiing.

It's the perfect time for selfies: the lighting is dreamy this time of year!

This is the perfect friend to reach out to attend concerts, the Nutcracker – you name it. The activity junkie is in for everything!

    Which type are you?
