  • Student robbed while walking to school in Merritt

School District 58 is in shock after one of their students was robbed on their way to school.

According to a letter SD58 sent out to parents this morning, the student was robbed while walking to school in the downtown area.

Police were informed of the incident and immediately responded. Though the student was not physically harmed, they are being supported through staff and family.

"We are working with the RCMP and would like to remind everyone in our community to be aware of your surroundings when in the community, to remain on main streets, and, whenever possible, travel with others," wrote Superintendent of School, Stephen McNiven. "We ask that you talk to your children about their experiences at school and in the community, and bring forward any question or concerns that you may have at this time."

Anyone with information on the event is asked to call the district at (250)378-5161 or RCMP at (250)378-4262.
