You can catch them busking on Bernard Avenue, playing at Parks Alive and at independent venues almost every night. Their music has become the soundtrack to Kelowna, but who are they?
KelownaNow wants to get to know the hard working, up and coming artists who fill our city with groovy tunes and we’re almost positive most of you do too!
This week we highlight local singer/songwriter, Shaedan Hawse. Known for dreamy acoustic tracks and honey-smooth vocals, Hawse's music can transport you from wherever you are, to sitting in a cafe, on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Though his music may seem ambient, it is commanding, and it is hard to take your eyes off him during a live set.

Where did your band name come from?
Definitely my mom, but I think she got the idea from a magician.
How would you describe your sound?
When I'm playing live I really like to do acoustic shows by myself. I think that it connects you with the audience more when it's just a guy and a guitar.
But the song I just released, "Montréal," has a bit of an odd indie, country-pop feel with some yelling at the end. Swooning vocals and Acoustic guitar dynamics would be the standouts of the song.
I've been told that it sounds like, "an angel having his morning coffee." That being said I'm not sure if I believe it. You'll have to listen for yourself.
What bands have influenced or inspired your music?
Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, City and Colour, The Growlers, Courtney Barnett… I could go on and on.
What has been your biggest musical achievement?
Opening the very first Canoe Sessions was a really cool experience, but I would have to say that it was definitely when I got to play on Okanagan Oldies. I'm pretty sure it was the only time they've ever said, "you heard it here first.”
How long have you been playing music in the Okanagan?
About three years now, but it was mostly just open mics and coffee shops for a lot of that.

Why do you like the Kelowna music scene?
It's kind of weird to say, but it's pretty intimate. The crowds aren't huge, but it means that there's a lot of room for new people to play and get comfortable up on stage.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of seeing people do their originals and I think in that respect there's certainly room for improvement in Kelowna, but I do like the direction that the scene is headed.

If you could open for any band or artist who would it be?
Hmm, I'd have to go with Father John Misty. He seems to have a good sense of humour.

Favourite local venue?
Inhabit is gorgeous and smaller, the Canoe Sessions again are fantastic, and I haven't done it yet, but the BNA sessions room looks awesome.

Definitely Speak Easy with Lauren, Aulie, and Scott! Windmills is another awesome guy that's given me a lot of support.
