This week, over 500 Rutland Secondary School students got to immerse themselves in different countries to celebrate Multicultural Week. English Language Learners (ELL) from 18 countries shared their traditional food and drink, clothing and facts about their cultures with students from grades 9-12.

"It was really eye-opening for both our Canadian-born students, as well as our ELL and International students," said Julie Loveridge-Marks, International Education/ELL Coordinator. "Both groups left the Expo with a better understanding about our diverse community of learners at RSS."
Canadian-born students who attended the Expo asked questions about topics such as politics, customs, teenage-life and hobbies, as well as challenges students faced coming to Canada and integrating into a Canadian school.

For the ELL and International students presenting, it was an opportunity to test their English skills and share their cultural identity.
Students who presented came from Mexico, Philippines, Thailand, Syria, Spain, Bolivia, Sudan, Iran, Colombia, Cuba, Vietnam, Jordan, Afghanistan, Brazil, France, Lebanon, China, and Jamaica.
