Prince George RCMP is warning residents to be quick when reporting incidents to police.  

Earlier this week, a business owner from downtown Prince George went to social media to complain about the lack of police response following shoplifting in her store. Police would like the public to know that social media posts are rarely the full story, and can hurt the investigation. 

The incident in question occurred at 2:50 pm on Tuesday when a woman made off with some items stolen from a retail store. A customer originally reported the theft, stating the owner ran out of the business chasing the shoplifter. Police remained on the line to gain more information on where the incident took place. Upon returning to the store, the owner said she did not want to speak to police. 

Due to not receiving enough information, officers were not dispatched to the store. A short time later, a second call came in from a witness to the incident. Their information was enough for police to figure out where the store was located. Because this happened 14 minutes after the first call to police, the incident was no longer given priority. From 2:30 to 3:30 pm, police received 13 different calls for service. 

Officers are now looking for a 20-year-old First Nations woman with long dark hair and blond streaks. She stands at 5'7" with a slender build, and she was wearing a grey puffy jacket at the time of the theft.
