Motorists are being told to make other plans if they need to travel down Highway 97 from Old Vernon Road to Edwards Road over the weekend as it will be closed.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will be conducting utilities work along this stretch of road as part of the six-laning along the corridor. This section of road will be closed from 9 p.m. on Sat., April 30 to 5 a.m. Sun., May 1.
A detour will be in place directing traffic east on Old Vernon Road north on Acland Road and west on Edwards Road. For traffic heading south on Highway 97, a detour will be in place directing traffic west onto Edwards Road, south onto Adams Road and east on Sexsmith Road.
In order to minimize inconvenience to motorists, this utilities work is being done during the overnight hours when traffic is lightest. The work is being done to expand and upgrade over four kilometres of Highway 97 from Highway 33 to Edwards Road.
