If you saw a row of Porsches making their way through Kelowna this week, there was more to the story than just a convoy of car enthusiasts showing off.  

Patrick Saint-Pierre, manager of public relations at Porsche Cars Canada, said two groups of between 12 and 20 people hopped into Porches as part of the company’s tour of British Columbia.

Potential and existing customers got the chance to drive the newest models on the highway and closed tracks for three days.

“Perhaps it’s someone who has considered buying a Porsche and is maybe on the fence and would like to see how it drives on a daily basis,” Saint-Pierre explained. “And also we have current owners who just get to drive the vehicles they love driving … and have great meals and stay at great places.

“It’s kind of like a short vacation, a road trip.”

The trip starts in Vancouver and loops through Whistler, the Okanagan and the Mission Raceway before heading back to Vancouver.

Participation in the three-day event comes at a cost of $3,495 per person, with meals and hotel stays.

The convoy wasn't related to Kelowna's new dealership, though there's news there, too.

On July 13, Porsche will be holding a ground-breaking ceremony for the new Porsche Centre in Kelowna, which will be located in the area of Finns Road and Stremel Road, just off Highway 97.

“Hopefully in the next year or so we will see even more Porsches around Kelowna,” said Saint-Pierre.
