Widespread lightning ignited several new wildfires last night, bringing a smoky haze to last night’s sunset.

It was beautiful sight, and people all round the South Okanagan took some appreciation photos.

Lightning caused fires were reported in Summerland near Mount Conkle, in Kaleden near Lakehill Road and Highway 97, and in Naramata near North Naramata Road and the KVR little Tunnel.

According to the District of Summerland, the Conkle Lake fire is estimated at 70 to 80 hectares in size. The fire is on Penticton Indian Band land. It is being fought by both air and ground by PIB and by Ministry of Forest crews. 

 Today's forecast calls for increasing winds this afternoon which could cause a further challenge for those fighting the fire.

In total, BC Wildfire Service responded to 13 new fires in the Kamloops Fire Centre last night as a result of the storm.
