On Monday, B.C.'s winter tire and chain regulations came into effect the province's highways are already seeing heavy snowfall. 

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Rogers Pass on the TransCanada Highway that will continue through Tuesday. 

Nearly 15 centimetres of snow has already fallen on the highway, with a further 10 to 15 cm expected tonight and another 5-10 cm of additional snowfall forecast on Tuesday.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

RCMP, Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement and other policing agencies can give you a $109 fine for not having the proper winter tires and you can also be prevented from travelling.

Winter tires must have the M+S logo on them, along with 3.5 millimetre tread.
