A couple of local volunteers were recently an integral part in finding two stolen cars in the Central Okanagan. 

While out on a routine patrol in Peachland as part of the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) Community Policing program, Gary Hedge and Ian Woodward noticed some suspicious activity.

The pair reported their observations to the RCMP, which eventually led to the recovery of two stolen vehicles.

“Our Community Policing volunteers are the eyes and ears of the community,” said Roy Morgan, community safety supervisor for the RDCO.

“Their commitment and attentiveness are instrumental in helping us maintain safe neighbourhoods throughout the Central Okanagan.”

The RDCO Community Policing program is supported by the District of Peachland, the District of Lake Country, the City of West Kelowna, RDCO and the RCMP.

The program trains volunteers to carry out various duties, including crime prevention patrols, traffic safety initiatives and public education campaigns.

“Being part of Community Policing is our way of giving back,” said Hedge and Woodward.

“We care about our community and want to help make it a safer place for everyone.”
