North Okanagan RCMP officers stepped in to help save a house on Friday morning. 

Officers were called to a residence on Bluenose Road in Lavington just after 8:45 am where an attic fire had begun to emit heavy smoke from under the roof.

The area is outside of the fire department’s coverage zone and when officers arrived homeowners were scrambling to retrieve their belongings while attempting to put out the blaze.

As a result, officers jumped into action and assisted with putting out the blaze, that was luckily doused before the home was destroyed. 

This fire is believed to have originated in the chimney of the wood burning stove.

"With the winter months upon us, this is a good reminder to ensure the maintenance of your heating source. This includes fireplaces, chimneys, furnaces and wood burning stoves." said Cst Jocelyn Noseworthy, Media Relations Officer of the Vernon/North Okanagan RCMP. 

"We are extremely grateful that no one was injured in this incident, and that the home was saved."
