New Barbie Dolls Represent Real Women

Barbie has released three new dolls that reflect the body types of real women and girls.

Toy manufacturer Mattel released the new dolls on Thursday calling them the Barbie Fashionistas. The new dolls will come with four different body types, seven skin tones, 22 eye colours, and 24 hairstyles. According to the company, this is just the beginning of new products that will offer girls with a range of identities new role models.

The new dolls are receiving mixed reviews, but many are welcoming the change and diversity. The new dolls are the biggest change in Barbie’s 57-year history and mark a change in American beauty ideals. Annually, Barbie brings in $1 billion in sales across more than 150 countries.
