In the latest episode of Business Matters, presented by Island Savings a Division of First West Credit Union, host Rob Cupello welcomes guests Julain Sale, owner of Motorize Electric and Victoria Electric Vehicle Association president Glenn Garry.
Victoria Electric Vehicle Association, is a non-profit organization with a mission to educate the public about electric vehicles (EV’s). It was originally founded in 2011 as the Victoria Leaf Club, it transformed into a full-fledged association in 2016.
Motorize Electric is your go-to destination for all things electric vehicles. As experts in the field, they offer a wide range of electric cars, including both new models and a selection of used EVs for sale at their dealership.
During their conversation, Sale and Garry discuss the changing face of EV consumers. Initially, environmentalists were the driving force behind EV adoption between 2011 and 2013, motivated by their eco-consciousness. However, electric cars have now gone mainstream.
Sale emphasizes the crucial role of associations like the Victoria Electric Vehicle Association in promoting EV’s.
“We're lucky to have the Victoria EV association as they are known to be one of the most active in Canada,” says Sale.
During their discussion, Garry and Sale also addressed prevalent myths, including the misconception that EVs are not suitable for long-distance travel.
Garry backed his point with compelling data, revealing that a substantial 95% of Canadians typically do not exceed 50 kilometers of daily driving.
As a result, electric cars effectively meet these daily commuting needs while also offering annual cost savings that would otherwise have been consumed by gasoline expenses, Garry explains.
The conversation delved into the challenges in the Canadian EV market such as the current absence of electric passenger cars in certain segments like airport shuttles and delivery vehicles.
However with advancements in technology and increasing awareness of the benefits of EVs, they believe that the Canadian market is poised for significant transformation in the years to come.
