As the municipal election draws closer, one mayoral candidate in the Central Okanagan has already been acclaimed.
Blair Ireland is set to become Lake Country’s new mayor after his lone opponent, Barry Rhodes, withdrew from the election.
After 17 years as mayor for Lake Country, James Baker announced he would not be seeking re-election earlier this year.
Ireland has served on Lake Country's council since 2014 and represents the Okanagan Centre ward.

Before entering municipal politics, he worked for Big White for 28 years as director of guest services.
Another two councillors have also been acclaimed. Councillor Cara Reed for Carr’s Landing and councillor Todd McKenzie for Oyama had no contestants and have secured a spot on council.
As for councillor at-large, Michael Lewis, Bib Patel and Bill Scarrow have put their names forward.
Tricia Brett and Riley Hastings are seeking election for Ireland’s former spot for the Okanagan Centre ward. Heather Irvine and Jerremy Kozub are running as Winfield candidates.
