A Kamloops film producer is competing to bring a comedic web series to the small screen.

Kora Vanderlip is part of a team that has received a $10,000 grant to produce a web series pilot for the Storyhive 2017 Web Series Competition.

Vanderlip is the senior director and writer on a team of nine who created Gotcha!, starring team lead Sinead Grewcock.

The comedy series follows young lawyer Gina Danino: “Unfazed by her own incompetence to be ‘normal’ she never leaves a case unsolved.”  

Vanderlip is a writer and director now based in Vancouver who worked within the Kamloops arts scene over the last seven years, graduating from the film production program at Vancouver Film School in 2016.  

Gotcha is one of 30 finalists from B.C. and Alberta all competing for an additional $50,000 grant to produce a full series. The 30 finalists were chosen out of 215 entries and the pilots will air on Telus Optik TV On Demand and on Storyhive in March of 2018.

Gina Danino is completely incompetent, however she is one heck of a Lawyer. She defies expectations and sexism that's thrust upon her by her colleagues who underestimate her. She's the best of the best, but also the worst of the worst when it comes to socializing, drinking coffee, holding objects, or even moving around a room. She's constantly making mistakes and fool of herself, but she'll never crack her 1990's monotone pantsuited exterior. With an overbearing boss, an aggressively jealous coworker, and hard-hitting cases she must rise to every challenge.

Fans of the pilots will be able to vote in February 2018 for one finalist from each province as the overall winners.

The first and second place winners will receive customized career training, mentorship and distribution on Telus Optik TV On Demand.
