One man is asking Kamloops city council to support his request to open a medical marijuana production facility.

Richard Brownlee, president of KamCan Products Inc, has obtained rezoning for a building to produce medical marijuana, according to a letter he has submitted to council to be reviewed on July 12.  

He said the site will employ between five and 10 full-time employees once it is operational.

Their lab would extract the medicinal ingredients from raw plant material into oils that could be used in a variety ways.

In the letter, Brownlee said they have applied for a license to grow and distribute marijuana for medical purposes and now await a pre-licensing inspection.

In a bold request, the business man invited council for a tour of their location at 8170 Dallas Drive.

The interior construction would kick off after final Health Canada approval.

“I would request that city council provide us with a letter of support for our business endeavor,” wrote Brownlee. “KamCan Products Inc will be fully compliant with all Health Canada regulatory requirements and will provide a safe, reliable source of medical marijuana for those who have appropriate health conditions.”

Brownlee boasts the benefits of the facility, including providing marijuana products he said can replace a number of narcotics and illegal drugs, and a source of jobs and tax revenue for Kamloops.
