The Kamloops Blazers put an end to a mini two-game losing streak the only way they knew how, by beating the WHL's second-place team.
Kamloops was hosting the Edmonton Oil Kings, who had 36 points on the season, one off the WHL-leading Lethbridge Hurricanes. In a back and forth affair, Kamloops would come out on top by a score of 5-3.
Logan Stankoven would open the scoring in the first period with his seventh of the season. That was answered by three quick goals by the Oil Kings, two of which were in the first period, and the other in the second.
In that second frame, the Blazers got a boost from their d-men. Montana Onyebuchi and Max Martin each got on the board to tie the game going into the third.
The third period saw Brodi Stuart score his third of the season, which ended up being the game-winner. Stankoven added an empty-netter to finish Edmonton off.
Dylan Garand did all he needed to do on Wednesday, stopping 27 of 30 shots in the win. The Blazers lost the special teams battle, going 1/5 on the power play and only killing off 2/3 penalties.
With the win, the Blazers sit at 16-9, putting them three points ahead of the Kelowna Rockets for top spot in the WHL's BC Division.
Up next, the Blazers host the Portland Winterhawks in two games this Friday and Saturday. Puck drop both nights at the Sandman Centre is 7 pm.
