  • In Focus | Banee Sandhu of Gravity Float & Wellness

In Focus is our gift to the community. A way for us to help show our recognition for the people, businesses and organizations that help make our city great. The team at KelownaNow.com is passionate about this community and the people that make it amazing. We want to show our friends, neighbours, family and colleagues that we notice them and the fabulous things that they do.

    What is your name?
    Banee Sandhu

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I was born and raised in Penticton, but I have been fortunate to call Kelowna my home for the last decade.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My grandfather. He is 90-years-old, and his positivity and zest for life is very contagious.  I have never left his presence without learning something new about how to navigate the world with a positive outlook.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
I would go somewhere I have always wanted to go, Hawaii.  There is something about the relaxing and simple way of living there that is very appealing to me.  Running a business requires many long hours so I would definitely aim to go somewhere that I can relax and unwind.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
There are far too locally owned stores in Kelowna to just choose one. I had a great experience at Beyond Nutrition yesterday and that is definitely one of my regular stops during the week.

    What is your favourite activity?
Besides working, I try to keep myself busy by training. Toshido MMA with my Coach David Lea and Aspire Health & Performance with the talented Shane Pizzey are my two places to train.  I believe that physical fitness is a big factor in your overall wellness.

If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
Pizza all day! You can never go wrong with a Pepperoni or Hawaiian pizza!

What is a hidden gem you enjoy in the Okanagan?
The Okanagan is filled with hidden gems.  My favourite so far is Bear Creek, the view is breathtaking, and the creek is very peaceful.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Being rejected for a bank loan with my first business when I was told I was just a kid, and that I should get a regular job like other people my age.  I wanted to give up then, but I am so thankful I kept my vision for Gravity in mind.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Being blessed to see my Grandpa walking around and laughing at the age of 90. He has had Cancer three times in his life, as well as a number of other health issues, but that has never stopped him from enjoying life. Watching him go through so many obstacles has led me to completely shift my mindset.  He has made me realize that life is too short and that we are meant to embrace it and enjoy it with a positive outlook.  My grandfather showed me that one’s blessings always outweigh their problems if they choose to see their life that way.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
My favourite childhood memories would be living a carefree life of playing basketball with my brother and friends.  During those days, the only thing keeping me up late was playing on the court until we couldn’t see the ball anymore.  I still try and get out on the court to relive those days as much as I can.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
Having businesses gives me an opportunity to help so many different organizations in the community. My businesses are always donating to local charities; as well we are very involved in sponsoring young up and coming Athletes. Our most recent efforts went towards supporting the victims of the fort mac fires.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I would want people to see what their life could be like if greed and a focus on material resources didn’t exist. I believe money has nothing to do with happiness.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Going for hikes and walks with my dog, Zara.  I get to enjoy Kelowna while getting some exercise for us both.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Mission Creek. I find it to be one of the most peaceful places to just unwind and be alone.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I think Colin Basran is doing an amazing job with our City. I don’t see anything that needs to be changed.

If you were granted one wish for work or in life, what would it be?
To make a positive impact on everyone I meet.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I have a twin brother.  People confuse us for one another all the time.

What is the name of your business/organization?
    Gravity Float & Wellness

    What does your business do?
At Gravity Float & Wellness we offer solutions that promote a strong mind and a strong body. We offer three unique treatments: Float Therapy, Cryotherapy, and Massage.

How to people connect with you through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)
    Facebook:          GravityFloatWellness
    Instagram:          GravityFloatWellness
    Twitter:               @GravityWellness

Where can people find your business online?
    www.GravityFloatWellness.com

Why did you get into/start this business?
I had always known about Float Therapy and the benefits but had never tried it. The moment I experienced a Float I started creating a business plan. Having a background in the health and wellness industry helped as it is what I am very passionate about.

What is the goal of your business?
The goal of the business is to not only educate the public but to offer them treatments that can benefit both their body and mind.  At Gravity, we believe that the mind and body connection is the most pertinent factor in maintaining good emotional and physical health.

What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
I opened my first business at 23 and loved to work. The problem with that was I would work 7 days a week and got very burnt out. Now, I have learned how to keep a balance of work and family, and it has brought nothing but positive changes to my life.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I never look back on the past. I believe everything happens for a reason.  I have to believe that I was meant to make mistakes along the way to learn and grow as a professional and an individual.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
When you shop local the money you spend is going towards supporting a family in our community. By supporting those that live in Kelowna, we are supporting our neighbours.  It has been a pleasure to see so many local businesses grow over the years I have been here.

Give someone that you think deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Shout out to my twin brother, Navee who has been my business partner since day one.

My nomination for the In Focus spotlight is:
Shane Pizzey- Owner of Aspire Health & Performance. Shane is busy all day and all night helping young athletes reach that next level. I respect his passion in wanting to help others succeed.

Other information you would like to share:
I’m very thankful for being recognized. Kelowna is the city that I call home, and it’s a very good feeling being able to wake up every day and help all the wonderful people in the community.
