On Saturday afternoon, the IHE Operator School in Winfield offered potential students and their community an awesome opportunity.
Opening their training site to the public, IHE hosted an afternoon open house that welcomed all of those interested in the field of heavy equipment operation the chance to get a first-hand look at the day to day tasks of an operator.
“The industry itself is in a growth phase,” says the IHE Winfield head of marketing.

“BC and Alberta have really had a bit of a slowdown phase, and right now we can’t get enough students to fill the roles,”
The event, although to mainly recruit new students, was open to everyone. Children over the age of 12 with their parents could even try their hand at operating an excavator.

After a hard day's work moving earth, attendees could then sit down for a burger and ask the faculty onsite more questions about the school and current job market in the field.
