This is some breaking news!

  • Hwy 93 partially reopened following large rockslide near Fairmont hot springs

A large rockslide closed down Highway 93 near Fairmont Hotsprings for much of Thursday.

The slide occurred early in the morning and left multiple large rocks and heavy debris scattered across the highway blocking traffic.

Engineers conducted a geotechnical assessment of the area called the Dutch Creek Hoodoos and heavy equipment was also brought in to lift the large rocks from the highway.

As of Thursday night, only a single lane of traffic had been reopened.

While the highway was dry on Thursday, much of BC's southern Interior is under a winter weather warning.

There is no timeline for when both lanes will be fully reopened.
