On Tuesday, Superintendent Shawna Baher of the Vernon RCMP presented a city employee with a coveted honourary coin for his role in saving a man’s life. 

Ewen Pitt received the small token of appreciation for “going above and beyond” his general duties to ensure an elderly resident was okay after not being heard from in days.

“He checked with several people who knew the man and they advised this was unusual behaviour,” said Cst. Jocelyn Noseworthy in a release. 

“Concerned for the mans' wellbeing, he contacted the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. An officer attended to the man's residence and found him in medical distress.”

Officials quickly transported the 73-year-old man to Vernon Jubilee Hospital and credited Ewan for saving his life. 

"Ewen listened to his intuition and took the initiative to follow up on this matter," said Supt Shawna Baher. 

"Because of his dedication and caring, we were able to get this gentleman the medical assistance he needed. Ewan is just one example of the exemplary employees we have at this detachment."

It's the 21st Vernon/North Okanagan RCMP coin to be presented to employees of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP in the last year.
