Much of the province is riding a heat wave into the first official week of summer.

According to Environment Canada, several record high temperature marks were eclipsed on Tuesday, June 11, with thermometres almost touching 30°C in many areas.

The hottest spot in Canada was Lytton, B.C. where the daytime high hit a balmy 35°C on the mercury.

However, the real news came out of Victoria where Tuesday’s high of 28.4°C smashed the previous high for June 11 of 21.7°C set in 1874.

The provincial capital was not alone as several other towns saw new heat records set on Tuesday:

• Clinton – 25.2°C (Old record: 24.6°C set in 2015)
• Gibsons – 27.8°C (Old record: 23°C set in 1989)
• Pemberton – 33.7°C (Old record: 32.2°C set in 1932)
• Sechelt – 27.8°C (Old record: 24°C set in 1982)
• Squamish – 30°C (Old record: 28.8°C set in 1982)
• Victoria – 28.4°C (Old record: 21.7°C set in 1874)
• Whistler – 30.1°C (Old record: 27.8°C set in 1950)

Just like that… it's sunscreen season!
