Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for several regions in the province, including the Okanagan Valley.

Pockets of freezing rain are expected this morning as an approaching Pacific system will spread warm, moist air over a thin layer of arctic air trapped in the Southern Interior valleys.

Precipitation will fall as freezing rain initially but is expected to quickly transition back to snow or rain as cooler air moves in overhead.

For South Thompson, Central and South Okanagan, and West Kootenay region the freezing rain is more likely over higher elevation where temperatures remain below the freezing mark.

It is currently 0 C in Kelowna, as observed at the airport.

Drive BC is also warning of freezing rain, adding that fog patches may lift this morning. Local snowfall of two to four centimetres is expected.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Be prepared to adjust your driving to changing road conditions.
