The Okanagan College Coyotes (6-2) baseball squad returned home to conclude their weekend series with the University of Fraser Valley Cascades (4-4) on Sunday.

After a pair of wins in Abbotsford the day prior, totalling 17 runs, OC would run into some offensive trouble with Cascades pitchers Dylan Emmons and Ian Zwartz.

On the mound, senior pitcher Wyatt Hummel threw two innings before being forced to leave the game from a line drive hitting his leg, only allowing one run.

Hummel would be relieved by freshman Jayden Clayton, who would curb UFV’s offense, only allowing three hits during his four innings on the mound.

Nic Lee would close the game on the last couple of innings, holding the Cascades to one run on two hits.

Despite their defensive prowess, the Coyotes would lose 2-0 in Sunday's first game.

Logan Wedgewood, Coyotes assistant coach, attributed OC’s lack of offense to good pitching on behalf of UFV.

“Emmons had us off balance all day. He did a good job throwing quality pitches and being efficient with his pitch count. When a guy is throwing three pitches for quality strikes they're tough to hit off of,” he said.

“I think when the second pitcher came in a lot of our hitters were frustrated from previous at bats and took that frustration in with them, which is never a good way to hit.”

The Coyotes would come into the game on Sunday evening having released their frustration in exchange for some hot bats.

OC would start with a struggling sophomore pitcher Chris Wyslobocki, who would allow three runs during his second start of the season.

He would be relieved by sophomore Alex Dawson who would limit the UFV offense to only two hits in over five innings, striking out seven batters during his time on the mound.

The Coyotes would dominate on offense, accumulating a total of 10 runs.

In the first inning, OC would score two runs on behalf of freshman Nolan King and senior Noah Wood-Jolivet.

OC would add six more runs in the second, and two in the sixth inning to make a final score of 10-4.

OC will return to the diamond against the undefeated Thompson Rivers Wolfpack (8-0) on Thursday in Kamloops, then again on Sunday at Elk Stadium in Kelowna. Sunday’s games will open at 4 p.m.
