Dallas Green fans came out in full force on Thursday night, as City and Colour performed in Kelowna.

The Canadian band kicked off its 2016 tour at Prospera Place in Kelowna, all thanks to City and Colour's latest album If I should Go Before You.

City and Colour started the night off with some guitar riffs, before singing Northern Blues, off of the new album. Audiences were captivated by Green's voice, which filled Prospera Place. 
 
Before City and Colour, Green started off as the vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for Alexisonfire. While the post-hardcore band took a break, Green couldn’t stop playing music, so he began playing smaller venues using the name City and Colour. City, for Dallas, Colour, for Green.

City and Colour released its first solo album, Sometimes, in 2005 and the rest is history.

Before the Canadian star hit the stage himself, Shakey Graves, a musician from Austin, Texas, started off the night. It was Shakey Graves first ever stadium concert, but the audience couldn't tell.

Song after song, Shakey Graves kept the audience engaged and constantly wanting more. The opening act didn't seem much like an opener at all; the entire stage was always being used.

Graves was extremely humble about how amazing Canada has been to him.

Once Shakey Graves received his standing ovation for his first larger-than-life show, City and Colour made the transition onto the Prospera Place stage.

The audience cheered as the lights dimmed down and Green began to play We Found Each Other in the Dark. The music of City and Colour sounded as though a record was playing, but in actuality, it was a live performance. You could have closed your eyes and just listened to Green's voice sing every song on the set list perfectly.

Even though the majority of the songs played by City and Colour were slower, the crowd kept up an overwhelming sense of unity and energy. Fans didn't have their phones out; instead, they were dancing, clapping and singing along to the lyrics. They were genuinely enjoying the moment.

After playing Waiting, the stage went black and a bright red spotlight appeared on Dallas Green. The band began to play The Grand Optimist and no fan was silent. The lights followed Green and the entire band and changed with the tempo, creating a powerful bond between the band, the lights and the crowd.

What might have surprised City and Colour fans the most was the stage presence of Green and his bandmates. Green introduced his bandmates during the performance, highlighting the fact that Matt Kelly — who plays the pedal steel and keys — is from Kelowna.

Song after song, City and Colour band members moved around the stage, instead of standing still. Green used multiple instruments — including the harmonica — and whenever a switch happened, the crowd would break out into a cheer. 

When Green walked off stage to signal that the night was over, Kelowna fans screamed for an encore. More than 4,400 of the most diverse people to ever come together for a show were clapping, chanting and hoping that City and Colour would return for another couple of songs. 

Fans got what they wanted when Green returned to the stage alone, with just an acoustic guitar. Green picked to do a cover of a Canadian song as his first encore number.

Green asked for the help of the audience as he began to sing Bobcaygeon by The Tragically Hip. The Candian singer-songwriter never mentioned why he decided to sing the Hip song, but it seemed obvious to fans considering Gordon Downie's recent terminal brain cancer diagnosis.

The entire arena sang out The Tragically Hip song while holding up their phones to create a star-like scene. After Green finished, he humbly thanked Kelowna for helping him sing that song.

Green went on to play a number of other encore songs including Body in a Box and The Girl. The Canadian hunk pulled out his harmonica and began to serenade Kelowna one last time.

The night finished with cheers for the Canadian band to continue because no one honestly wanted to stop listening to Green's beautiful and mesmerizing voice. 

City and Colour's summer tour continues Friday in Vancouver and Sunday in Prince George before heading across Canada.
