Restaurants will temporarily be permitted to include alcohol in take out and delivery orders. 

On Sunday, the BC government announced the change that will allow customers to order packaged liquor products from licensed businesses when previously restaurants were only permitted to sell liquor for consumption in their establishments.

Individuals delivering ordered liquor products are required to be certified with Serving It Right, which the BC government hopes will encourage businesses to use currently laid-off serving staff to make deliveries. 

“Permitting licensed restaurants to hire their out of work servers to deliver liquor products as part of their food-delivery service allows the public to continue to observe social distancing measures and also offers much-needed support to these workers and businesses,” said BC attorney general, David Eby.

As well, those purchasing liquor with their meal must be of legal age and will be required to present government-issued identification. 

The changes take effect immediately and expire on July 15, 2020.
