From ballet technique basics to jumps, pirouettes, and pointe work, Ballet Kelowna continues to offer classes to the public this fall through its IN MOTION program. Introductory, beginner and intermediate level ballet classes begin mid-September.
“You definitely get a good workout between the barre and centre work that helps develop balance and strengthen your core,” said student, Karen Perry. “But much more important is that the classes are so much fun – way more fun and interesting than any other type of exercise I’ve tried.”

IN MOTION classes are taught by Ballet Kelowna’s professional dancers, while the Company’s state-of-the-art sprung dance floor, a must for the practice of ballet sets the stage for dancers to perfect their technique.
People in the classes are all shapes and sizes, ages from 18 up, as well as all abilities.

Ballet Kelowna’s IN MOTION program is the culmination of Artistic Director and CEO Simone Orlando’s vision to build stronger roots in the community. “These classes continue the long lasting legacy of Gweneth Lloyd and Betty Farrally, co-founders of The Canadian School of Ballet (1938) and Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet (1939) who traveled throughout the region giving dance classes,” says Orlando.
“This is an opportunity for former dance students and beginners to stay fit through the practice of ballet. By the end of the fall term, dancers will be moving gracefully across the floor,” says Simone Orlando, the Artistic Director, and CEO.
