  • 6 videos to get you pumped for ski season

    Who’s ready for winter?

If your first reaction to the thought of snow covered mountains and sub-zero temperatures is to begin preparing for hibernation, listen up. We’re here to tell you there’s a better way. Embracing winter may seem like an alien idea, but we promise once you do, you’ll be waiting in anticipation for that first magical snowfall.

So, instead of lining up the Netflix queue and pulling out the snuggie, embrace all that the changing of the season has to offer. There’s really nothing better than heading up into the mountains and hitting the slopes. Whether you grew up skiing or snowboarding, or are yet to give it a try, we want to help you get stoked for winter this year.

When you fall in love with a sport, there’s a certain emotion that takes over, a mixture of anticipation, dedication and pure joy. Looking out at clear blue skies, sun reflecting off brilliant white snow, while standing on the top of mountain will give you just that. For many it becomes more than a sport or something to do, it transforms into a lifestyle.

Now’s the time for some inspiration, as we stare longingly at the hilltops for the first dusting of snow. We’ve put together some of our favourite videos to tide you over until then, and to get your feet itching for ski season.

    Biker vs Skier

To highlight the changing over of the season and promote their incredible bike park, SilverStar Mountain Resort released the epic “Biker vs Skier” video. Following both a mountain biker and a downhill skier as they make their way down the mountain, it’s one of the most unique videos out there and makes you want to dust off those skis.

    The Burn

All too real for our province this summer, this artistic video was filmed with the intent of revealing that even burn zones are not completely dead, but part of an evolving forest. It’s haunting and beautiful, and one of the more artistic ski videos out there. Watch as these skiers make their way through a charcoal forest, dancing with embers lighting up the forest (no, the forest was not actually smoldering, these are added effects).

    Asulkan Hut

Kelowna local filmmaker, Nic Collar, highlights the beauty of backcountry skiing in a short film featuring a trip to the Asulkan Hut in Glacier National Park. “For me, a trip like this is about getting my feet back under me,” Collar says in the video. “Something to get away from day-to-day life and the noise, stress and responsibilities we have, and escape into the immersive process that is navigating this backcountry.”

    Epic Riding

Back in 2012, more than 100cm of powder fell over the span of a week at SilverStar Mountain Resort. The results, well, they speak for themselves.

    Afterglow

Filmmakers are constantly pushing the envelope of what is possible within the realm of outdoor adventure. The level of creativity paired with the unbelievable scale of the shoot makes “Afterglow” a one of a kind project. Featuring deep Alaskan powder, full body LED suits and shot entirely at night, this one is a must see.

    All you ever dream of

This short video, featuring SilverStar Mountain Resort, highlights the whole mountain experience and lifestyle that comes with the sport, and will have you dreaming of winter in no time.

With over 3,282 skiable acres of terrain spread across four mountain faces, SilverStar Mountain Resort is B.C.’s third largest ski resort. This year marks 60 years for the resort, with a rich history in mountain lifestyle and great skiing. Featuring champagne powder, varied terrain, a colourful mid-mountain village and endless winter activities, there’s a little something for everyone.
