  • 3 more communities evacuated as Fort McMurray fire rages on

UPDATE (8:30 a.m.): According to a recent update from The Regional District of Wood Buffalo, North Abasand is now on fire. The radio and cell tower is under threat.

The wildfire has caused significant damage to the Prospect area, but fire crews prevented it from crossing Confederation Way.

Structures along Old Airport Road have also been seriously damaged.

The status of Saprae Creek status and Anzac status is unknown.

    Original story:

The wildfire in Fort McMurray doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.

Because of changing weather patterns, Alberta Forestry advised the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo to announce a mandatory evacuation of Anzac, Gregoire Lake Estates and Fort McMurray First Nation just before 10 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Buses were gathered and the RCMP went door-to-door to advise people, before buses headed out at midnight.

According to the last damage update released at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Blackburn Drive has three structure fires and Walnut Crescent has approximately 15 structure fires. In North Parsons, fire crews lost the new school being built.

Highway 63 was closed for some time at Highway 69 due to fire.

At the time, there were no problems in Thickwood, Birchwood Trails, Timberlea, Eagle Ridge, Downtown and Prairie Creek.

People have been stepping up across the country to help evacuees in need.
