  • UPDATE: Southern Interior wildfires now being held

    (UPDATE: April 14 @ 5:41 am): All the fires highlighted by the BC Wildfire Service on Sunday are now being held.

    (Original story: April 13 @ 5:35 am): There are numerous wildfires burning in the Southern Interior. 

    The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said yesterday evening it was dealing with three active fires – all of them human-caused. 

    But the organization’s live map this morning shows an additional three fires.

    The largest is the Lauder Road fire, about 8.5 kilometres east of Hwy 5A. 

    When BCWS highlighted the fire yesterday, they said it was 20 hectares in size. 


    It’s now listed as 50 ha. 

    A helicopter and four personnel were sent out to deal with the fire yesterday.

    Another fire, north of Lytton, is about 10 ha and was being worked on by six personnel yesterday evening. 

    They are building a handguard along its southern flank. 

    Other active fires include: 

    • Three small fires south of Cawston, each of them under 3 ha

    • Another small fire on Knouff Lake Road, north of Kamloops
