On Monday, April 30, Aveda Salons and Spas from across the Okanagan will come together in Kelowna for the 11th annual Walk 4 Water— and you’re encouraged to join in!

The walk is used as a way to raise awareness and funds for clean water projects around the world.

Participants will walk 6 k.m., the average distance women and children in rural areas of developing countries must walk each day to gather water.

These trips can prevent children from attending school, and at times the unsanitary state of the water being gathered can present serious health risks.

In addition to the walk, participating salons have been fundraising the whole month of April, which is also Earth Month, through various events and sales.

Some local salons have been participating in the “Appointments for Clean Water” where they donate all the funds from their service to the cause, along with stylists donating their time.

Currently, Salons in our region are tracking to raise over $20,000 to contribute toward the national goal of $510,000 that will be donated to WaterAid Canada.

With usually 50 or more participants, Kelowna garners a great turnout, despite being one of the smaller cities to join in among larger metropolises like Toronto and Vancouver.

Registration for the family-friendly event starts up at 8 a.m. this coming Monday in Kerry Park, with the walk kicking off at 9 a.m. sharp. Four-legged friends are also welcome.
