As of Thursday morning, 19 artists ranging from heavy metal to hip-hop are now vying to become one of the five artists inducted into the Hall of Fame, some of whom have been nominated many times before.
Artists not only become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record, but have to have made a significant impact on the music of their genre, whether it be by its preservation or strives in its development.

Heavy metal titans, Judas Priest received their first nomination this year, though they have been eligible since 1999. Metal fans are hopeful this nomination and possible induction will pave the way for other metal monsters such as Iron Maiden.

Though the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame sounds genre specific, it regularly rides the spectrum of music including rappers, folk artists, and heavy metal bands.
This year LL Cool J is the sole rapper nominated, though the rap-infused Rage Against The Machine is also on the list with their first nomination.
