This is some breaking news!

  • Yum-yum, Kelowna’s winter dining festival ‘Taste Around’ launches Wednesday

    Ok, let's eat.

    How about this?

French onion soup to start, followed by beef pot roast and then a giant chocolate chip ice cream sandwich for dessert.

Or, bacon-wrapped jalapenos, prawn pesto rigatoni and a blackberry lavender cheesecake finish.

These are just two of the scores of three-course, fixed-price lunches and dinners on offer during Taste Around Kelowna — the city's annual winter dining festival running from tomorrow (Wednesday, Jan. 21) through Sunday, Feb. 8.

    </who>Taste Around Kelowna features $25 to $70 three-course dinners at 57 restaurants, Jan. 21 to Feb. 8.

By the way, that pot roast is part of the $45 prix-fixe three-course meal at The Train Station Pub.

And, the prawn pesto rigatoni in the $35 three-course menu at The Office Brewery.

In all, 57 Kelowna restaurants are offering Taste Around deals ranging from $25 to $70 for three courses.

Many of the eateries are also suggesting wine and beer pairings help bolster Okanagan wine and craft beer sales.

Taste Around deliberately falls this time of year to inspire people to dine out during what is otherwise the winter lull between New Year's Eve and Valentine's Day.

In other words, it's a winter culinary celebration to encourage you to try someplace new or revisit a favourite place.

Go by yourself, as a couple or part of a group.

With 57 restaurants participating there's so much choice.

There are locally owned independents such as Basil & Mint, El Taquero, Derrick's Steakhouse, Erica Jane, Bernie's, Central Kitchen+Bar and Olympia Greek Taverna.

At Basil & Mint gnocchi boneless short ribs, chicken supreme, tiramisu and dark chocolate mousse are all on the menu.

There are chain restaurants such as Earl's, Moxie's, Bin 4 Burger Lounge, Memphis Blues and Moxie's.

There are restaurants at wineries such as Tula at Little Straw, Old Vines at Quails' Gate, 31 Charkay at Grizzli, Block One at 50th Parallel, The Lookout at Gray Monk, Garden Bistro at Peak Cellars, Home Block at CedarCreek and the eateries at Mission Hill and Sandhill.

Brewery restaurants are also in on the act — Britannia, Craft Beer Market, BNA Brewing, BNA Burger, Lakesider, Kelowna Beer Institute, The Hatching Post and The Office.

Some of Craft's offerings are crispy salmon sushi, spicy ahi tuna tacos, steak frites, cajun chicken alfredo and spiced caramel cake.

The BC Restaurant & Foodservices Association is the organizer of Taste Around, not just in Kelowna but other regions across the province, including Kamloops, Okanagan, BC Interior, Victoria, Vancouver, Central Island, Kootenays and Northern BC.
