  • YMCA Cycle For Strong Kids raises heart rates and funds for local youth

On Sunday, May 29, H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre will play host to the 10th annual YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids, a fundraiser to support healthy and active lifestyles for thousands of children in our local community.

This family-friendly event offers different activities throughout the day to raise funds and raise heart rates! It will kick off with a family bike ride through the Greenway at 10:30 a.m. Throughout the remainder of the day, there will be fun and unique group cycling classes in addition to a BBQ, auction and kids zone with a bouncy castle!

Truly a fun event, last year 260 people came to ride with a total of 30 teams. To add to the upbeat experience, around 75% of those who participated last year also donned funky and fun costumes. One group even came dressed at the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

Organizers are expecting 300 riders this year, from approximately 33 teams. Many local businesses have organized teams to support the cause and help fundraise, including Kelowna law firm Doak Shirreff, who will be taking to their bikes and riding at 11 a.m. to help lend their support to kids in the community

Cycle for Strong Kids is part of a larger campaign, YMCA Strong Kids. Motivated by a desire to provide safe, active, and affordable spaces for the Okanagan’s children, every dollar raised by the Strong Kids Campaign goes directly towards supporting kids and families in the Okanagan. Money raised contributes to assisted memberships and affordable child care.

If you’re interested in joining a team or event for a class, there’s still time to sign up! It’s easy, it’s fun, it’s great for our community and it’s only 45 minutes! If cycling isn’t your thing, come along for the fun of it.
