(UPDATE: June 7, 2018 @ 4 p.m.) – As of 4 p.m. on Thursday, the wildfire burning near Fairmont Hot Springs has grown in size to an estimated 60 hectares. 

According to information officer Carlee Kachman, 47 wildfire personnel are battling the blaze that remains out of control at this time. 

"The out of control designation describes a wildfire that is not responding or responding on a limited basis to the suppression actions being taken on the fire and is not being contained currently," explained Kachman.

Three water bucketing helicopters along with three water tenders are currently being used by wildfire crews who continue to deal with strong gusty winds and steep terrain.

(Original Story) – BC Wildfire crews are responding to a wildfire burning about 25 kilometres east of Fairmont Hot Springs.

The blaze is an estimated 54 hectares in size and is described as an out of control fire that is currently not responding to suppression action.

According to fire information officer Ashley Davidoff, 49 personnel are currently battling the fire, including two bucket helicopters, water tenders and air tankers, which hit blaze this afternoon. 

“There are strong, gusty winds at this time, and crews are working in difficult steep terrain which makes aspects of the fire quite challenging,” explained Davidoff.

There are no evacuation alerts in place as the fire is not threatening any structures at this time and road there are no road closures. 

Officials suspect the fire to be human caused.
