Hello Friends! HAPPY 2020! Hope your holiday season offered everything you wished for. I found more than ever resolutions popping up in conversations with the new decade upon us. I prefer those solstice
‘goals’ rather than an entire year. 90 days is a reasonable amount of time to really sink into a new routine; whether it’s fitness, food or soul work. Every 3 months an opportunity to add onto those or make new ones.
Why, however… do we choose the goals or resolutions that we do? Really look at your ‘why’. Is it for that event coming up, a vacation, wedding or competition? Maybe you have running goals, cycling, a first triathlon. Perhaps it’s new nutrition plan… like giving plantbased eating a shot or juicing more.
There’s a very profound shift happening in the wellness community which we promote in our studio. When we ask the big ‘why’ question, an enormous amount of answers have been… ‘I want to FEEL
good’! YES! YES! YES! (Think Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally). Sure, a healthy consistent eating plan and exercise may help you reach a ‘goal’ weight, but what if you get there and still don’t get that feel good vibe? That’s where the ‘why’ comes in, maybe before you start… jot down some of your ‘whys’. Be honest with yourself, is it to look good for an upcoming event, or compete stronger, to remain injury free, shedding some body weight to help manage pain in the joints, letting go of foods that you know harm your stomach, skin and heart.
My ‘whys’ can be used as examples: I exercise regularly because it feels good, I want to age healthy, and it’s fun! I maintain a reasonable weight for pain management… an extra 10-15 pounds causes a lot of extra ouches in my body. I run for the euphoric feeling it provides, the outdoor mother nature love, the joy of breath and the music I jam to! I do yoga and meditation because stillness and breath help ground me and allow me to show for myself feeling balanced. I eat a plant-based diet because I feel good about those choices for the planet, its inhabitants and my body. I do not hop on the scale and hope for a magic number, I know where I’m at based on how I feel. I have been a fitness buff a long time, but I have struggled with weight just like many of you. I reached 210lbs in my pregnancy and hovered around 165lbs during the knee issues. The first thing that resonated with me when the weight slowly came down was how much more tolerable my joint pain was, that’s when my relationship with the scale became real, it wasn’t about being thin at all. Being pain free is and always will be a top priority for me! Thankfully the infrared heat in the Oxygen studio keeps me energized and mobile! Find YOUR why! Own it! If it’s to fit into a tuxedo or a wedding dress so be it… maybe it’s the beginning of something wonderful for YOU! Perhaps it’s being comfortable and loving yourself exactly where you are right now! Feeling good in your skin is one size fits all and no-one can tell you how that looks on you or what shape it should be. DO YOU, FOR YOU! It’s your life after all…. LIVE IT NOW!
