Despite not being able to perform on American Idol’s actual big stage, BC teen Lauren Spencer-Smith is still wowing audiences. 

On Sunday night’s episode of the hit show, the 16-year-old performed her version of "Mama Knows Best" from the balcony of her family home on Sproat Lake, just outside of Port Alberni. 

Spencer-Smith has been in quarantine with her family on Vancouver Island during the pandemic, but is still vying for a spot in American Idol’s Top 10.

“Not a horrible place to be quarantined… You sound so great, and it’s incredible you’re growing during a quarantine,” said American Idol judge Katy Perry.

It's the first time in the show's 18 year history that contestants have been forced to perform from home instead of in the Hollywood studios. 

Viewers can tune in next Sunday, May 3 to see if BC's very own Spencer-Smith makes it into the top 10!
