Former Kelowna-Lake Country MP Ron Cannan is opening up about his decision. 

The three term MP stopped-in at KelownaNow to explain his choice not to seek the Conservative nomination in the riding.

First Elected in 2006, Cannan's loss to his Liberal Counterpart, Stephen Fuhr in 2015 came as a huge surprise to many political observers.

Cannan announced his plans to withdraw at a weekend Electoral District Association meeting.

He described his decision as difficult and emotional.  He said he wants to spend more time with his family, but he doesn't rule out taking another run at a seat on city council.
