There is something special about the kind of love that stands the test of time. And when KelownaNow headed to the boardwalk to hand out roses, that's exactly what we found.
Not one, but two couples with 42 years of togetherness to celebrate.
"My best friend," said Debbie, describing Rick, her husband of 42-years. "Pretty special guy." The Mathesons are quick to laugh, so that could be their secret. "Lots of humour," explained Rick turning to his wife.
"She's got a great sense of humour to be married to me."
The other 42-year-old couple we happened across seemed equally inseparable after the same passage of time."He's fun," said the wife about her husband. "We still have tons of fun together."
For others, it's not the romantic kind of love that's felt on this special day, but instead, it's the special love that people have for members of their immediate family.
"She's my soulmate in sister form," said one young woman about her sister. "She's just my rock. She's been there for me for everything."
For one woman we spoke to, it's her daughter who comes to mind, Joy, who's living somewhere far away.
"She's the love of my life," she said. "My first baby."
