  • VIDEO: Kelowna residents oppose trophy hunting

Trophy hunting is very unpopular. When we took the question to the streets of Kelowna, it fell in line with a Research Co national poll that found 85% of Canadians oppose it.

The same survey also found that most Canadians do not oppose hunting if the hunter is taking the animal for its meat. Again, those sentiments were reflected in the opinions we heard on the streets of Kelowna.

The national survey showed Canadians also oppose hunting for fur, with that opposition highest in Ontario (81%) and here in BC (79%)

Opposition to hunting for fur was highest in Ontario (81%) and British Columbia (79%).

65% in that national survey support hunting for food.

A ban on grizzly bear trophy hunting was announced in August of 2018 in BC, but hunting the animals for meat is still permitted.
