  • VIDEO: Have a coffee, send a kid to camp

Have a coffee at Tim Hortons before the day is over and you're part of something big. Every penny spent on coffee goes toward helping send kids to camp. It's Camp Day, so we stopped by one Kelowna Store to check it out.

The event has been held for more than 25 years and last year raised an astounding $13 million. By the end of the Day, the company will be nearing the $200 million mark of funds raised since the Camp Days began.

The focus at each of the seven signature Tim Hortons camps is fostering a sense of leadership, community and self-worth. Close to 300,000 kids have benefited from these camp trips over the years.

When we checked in at the Lakeshore Road Tim Hortons in Kelowna, there were YMCA representatives entertaining people in the line-up and by-law officers serving behind the counter. "We give them a little crash course on how to read the screens and pour the coffee and they do their best. A little bit of mess," said manager Kristy Punnett, "but it helps promote the cause."

It's estimated that one in seven children in Canada are living in poverty and it's those kids that The Tim Hortons Foundation aims to help.
