It was once cancelled by a pandemic.

It's been postponed by firestorms and now even the diamond is gone, but Denim endures. 

Organizers wanted to extend an open invitation to firefighters and other first responders after the summer's devastating firestorm.

They moved the event from King's Stadium to City Park to accommodate up to 4,500 people.

"Denim off the Diamond now," said Kurt Jory of Thick as Thieves Entertainment with a chuckle.

"This is a great venue," said Jory's partner, Mich Carefoot. "This is meant for events."

The decision to leave King's stadium was a difficult one.

"It's bittersweet," said Jory. "This venue is a little more accommodating to our needs."

They expect a mostly local crowd to pack into City Park.

"It's a community gathering," said Carefoot. "Especially after what we've all gone through."

This year's event was forced to postpone because of the McDougall Creek wildfire.

It was since rescheduled and re-located.

It was just one more crisis in what has been a very eventful six-year history for Denim on the Diamond.

"That's show biz, baby," said Jory.

But he admits it's not been easy. 

"Trying to reschedule artists, I equated it with trying to complete a Rubik's Cube with your eyes closed using only your feet."

But the pair are happy with the lineup.

On Friday night the focus is country with performers including Ernest, MacKenzie Porter and Talk.

Saturday night it's Bryce Vine, Rêve, and Max Frost. 

"Some of the tops in their genres," said Carefoot.

And everywhere you look there will be reminders that it's home.

"We have ten local breweries, ten local food trucks and ten local retailers," he said.
