  • VIDEO: Dancing to impress

On Monday, hopeful dancers put their best ballet slippered feet forward – as they auditioned for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School.

Kelowna was the fifth stop during the three-month audition tour that is taking place across Canada and into the U.S through Jan. 2019.

This audition is the first step for students hoping to join one of the school’s three full-time programs (Ballet Academic, Aspirant, and Teacher Training)

“We are looking for talent and potential,” says Royal Winnipeg Ballet School’s Johanne Gingras.

Successful auditioners will be extended an invitation to Summer Sessions, which is part two of the audition.

“This is one of her aspirations – to further her career, this is the first step," explains Sue O’Keefe, whose daughter Tiernen was auditioning for a coveted spot at the ballet school.

After one month of Summer Sessions,  those who make the cut are accepted into Regular Sessions, taking place from Sept. 2019 to June 2020.

“It’s so fun,” said an excited Tieren, “that’s all that really matters.”

Video applications will be accepted online until May 1, 2019, for students unable to attend an audition.
