On Saturday evening, the Delta Grand Hotel was packed full of over 500 members of the Central Okanagan’s homebuilding community, for the annual Okanagan Housing Awards of Excellence. 

Hailed as the industry’s “biggest night of the year,” the event aims to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments made by our valley’s finest in architecture, home innovation, interior design, environmental sustainability and much more. 

“This night is special because we get to celebrate the best of the best,” said Cassidy DeVeer, president of the Canadian Homebuilders Association Central Okanagan.

“Projects that we do here are some of the most amazing in all of Canada, so it’s really nice to see [them] come together and it’s exciting to see who wins.”

For its 27th year, the awards honoured over 100 finalists in any and every aspect of homebuilding, from excellence in bathroom renovations to home of the year, hardware was handed out to only 39 of the nominees.

“It is amazing to see the type of construction and the type of homes that are built here, [they are] top quality,” said Stefanie Coleman, president of the Canadian Homebuilders Association.

“The home building industry is one of the leading employers in all of Canada and one of the key economic drivers, so it is certainly a very important industry not just for us [within it] but also we are building and renovating homes for people, it is where they live, it’s their castles.”

Taking home the most coveted award of the night, Home of the Year, was Weninger Construction & Design Ltd. 

The company received the impressive accolade for its construction and design work on the stunning “Snowpeaks Lodge,”  a 7,000 square foot chalet equipped with innovative features such as repurposed ski lift chairs and a floating staircase.
