A swarm of bees was generating a lot of buzz at Uptown Shopping Centre earlier this week, as captured by Zoe Urquhart in this video on the Field Naturalists of Vancouver Island Facebook page:
According to a local beekeeper, the hive had located their missing queen and swarmed around her on the sidewalk to protect her. Unfortunately, the queen would pass away, leaving the bees unsure of what to do next. Mall security would later corden off the area to ensure no harm came to the creatures.
Ultimately, the beekeeper returned to the site to collect the bees the next morning and they have since gained a new home with a new queen.
