(UPDATE: Dec. 12 @ 2:25 pm) – A vehicle incident east of Revelstoke has resulted in one death and another serious crash has sent two people to the hospital.

At about 9:20 am on Friday, RCMP officers were called to the scene of a serious motor vehicle incident on Highway 1.

In an afternoon update, the RCMP have confirmed that two semi trucks were in a head-on collision and one of the drivers died at the scene.

The other driver was transported to hospital in serious condition.

Highway 1 will be closed in both directions until further notice, the RCMP said in a news release.

The Revelstoke RCMP is working closely with BC Highway Patrol and the RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, the release added.

“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased individual,” said Cpl. Brett Urano, BC RCMP spokesperson. 

“We would like to thank all the first responders to attended and provided care to those involved in the incident. We ask that anyone who has dash cam footage or witnessed the incident to speak to an investigator if they have not already done so.”

About 10 minutes after the crash east of Revelstoke, RCMP in Golden were called to the scene of another crash.

Two semi trucks collided, causing the highway to be completely blocked. 

Both drivers were transported to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The highway was closed east of Golden but has since reopened to single lane alternating traffic as police continue their investigation.

“The Golden-Field RCMP would like to remind drivers to drive to conditions and only travel if necessary. The roads are treacherous with the current weather conditions,” said Detachment Commander Mitch Mercier.

“Please stay home if you can.”

(Original story: Dec. 12 @ 10:06 am) – A vehicle incident has closed an eastern section of the Trans-Canada Highway.

The highway is closed through Glacier National Park, near the Illecillewaet River Bridge.

That is about 7 km west of Rogers Pass Summit to 6 km east of West Boundary of Glacier National Park.

DriveBC says an assessment is in progress and traffic control is at the scene.

However, there is no estimated time of reopening.
