Another mode of transportation may be coming to Kelowna.

The driving network Uber, based in San Francisco, announced on Thursday that they will be holding a driver-partner info session in Kelowna on Monday, April 11. 

“We hold these info sessions in communities across Canada so people can learn about the benefits of the Uber platform and so we may assess local driver interest,” said Susie Heath, spokesperson for Uber Canada.

According to the company, driver-partners with Uber can earn a full-time income or top up their salaries at other jobs.

Uber drivers can access the network whenever it works for them, and can cater their hours to their daily lives.

So far, over 1 million in 70 countries around the world, and 22,000 people in Canada, are partnering with Uber.

Right now, the market for the service is largely untapped in British Columbia.

According to Uber, B.C. is actually the largest jurisdiction in North America without ridesharing.

More than 100,000 people in the province have signed up for Uber and downloaded the app already.

Heath said Vancouver, Langley Township, Port Moody, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam have all said they want ridesharing regulated by the province and over 66,000 people have signed Uber’s petition calling for provincial ridesharing regulations in B.C. 

Uber is already available in some Canadian cities including Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec and Edmonton.
